This site is maintained by long time Ebay sellers, nantique$ and shred$. We feature Florida Art by Redman and recent works by Charles "Chico" Wheeler (one of the surviving original Florida Highwaymen). Redman is a landscape artist who lives and works in Fort Pierce, Florida. He is a self taught artist who learned to paint by restoring vintage Highwaymen Paintings. He has no training, formal or otherwise, and says he is "Completely free to paint what I see." He paints in an impressionist's style using lots of paint and bold, vivid colors. His technique of "piling on the paint" makes his artwork pop! with an almost three dimensional appearance. He is quickly gaining popularity amoung Regional Collectors and Florida Art buyers. Many pieces have sold on Ebay and at Pineapple Pattis Antique Mall in Fort Pierce. We are an authorized agent for this artist and we can arrange commissions, apearances and package deals for Galleries. Charles "Chico" Wheeler is a surviving member of a group of African-American artists known as The Florida Highwaymen. He is one of the original 26 painters listed in Gary Monroe's book "The Highwaymen: Florida's African-American Landscape Painters" Chico started painting in 1967 after being honorably discharged from service in the U.S. Army. Fort Pierce/Vero was a sparsly populated area back then, and he knew all the other Highwaymen. He was inspired and encouraged to paint by Livingston "Castro" Roberts. They became best friends and painted and socialized together over the years. Chico traveled up and down the East Coast the East Coast selling paintings, supplementing his income as a migrant laborer, picking fruits and vegetables. Times change, and Chico quit painting in the late 1980's to become a full time laborer in the Agriculture Business. He continued his friendship with Roberts who never stopped painting. In the 1990's Art Dealers and Collector's started to take notice of the large volume of Oil Paintings that seemed to originate from the Fort Pierce/Vero Area. A few articles appeared in magazines, and Gary Monroe wrote his book. Interest exploded and prices paid for the paintings exploded with it. L. Roberts was selling his art for good money, and once again Chico was encouraged by his friend to paint. He started again in 2001 attending shows and selling to local Galleries. The rest is History. He has been very successful with his come-back, selling many original pieces. We are an authorized agent for C. Wheeler, and all of his pieces we offer come directly from him. They are all "Fresh to Market" pieces never owned or displayed by anyone but the artist. We do not buy from him, we sell for him. All C. Wheeler paintings sold on this site will come with a COA signed by the artist and seller. Contact us for info on commissions , or appearances.
